  1. Data from recent trawl surveys in the vicinity of Heard Island and McDonald Islands (Division 58.5.2), reveal an unusual cohort structure in the mackerel icefish (Champsocephalus gunnari) population

Abstract:  Surveys of mackerel icefish, Champsocephalus gunnari, was undertaken in Division 58.5.2 in the vicinity of Heard Island during September 2010 and April 2011, to provide information on the population dynamics of this species, and to provide a basis for an assessment of short-term annual

  2. Results from the random stratified trawl surveys to estimate distribution and abundance of Dissostichus eleginoides and Champsocephalus gunnari in the Heard Island region (Division 58.5.2) for 2010 and 2011

Abstract:  Random stratified trawl surveys were completed in September 2010 and in March to May 2011 on the RV Southern Champion, adding to the time series of annual surveys in Division 58.5.2 that commenced in 1997. An earlier survey in April 2010 was not completed, but valid hauls from this, as

  3. The biology, ecology and development of fishery management advice for the anomuran crabs of South Georgia (CCAMLR Subarea 48.3)

Abstract:  This paper summarises the data collection requirements for the exploratory fisheries for Dissostichus spp. and the general characteristics of the research hauls which may assist WG-FSA to determine the extent to which the available data may be used in developing assessments for these

  5. Summary of a three year mark-recapture experiment to estimate population size of Antarctic toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni) in Southern Area of Statistical Subarea 48.4

Abstract:  A three-year tagging experiment was initiated by the UK in 2008/09 fishing season with the aims of providing the data required for assessments of the population structure, size, movement and growth of both Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) and Antarctic tooth (Dissostichus

  6. Population assessment of Patagonian toothfish in Subarea 48.4 – 2011 update

Abstract:  In this paper we update the assessment of D. eleginoides in the northern half of Subarea 48.4 presented in 2010. The CASAL model is improved through the incorporation catch at age data, as an alternative to the catch at length data that were the only such data available in 2010. The

  7. New gonad identification guides for Dissostichus eleginoides

Abstract:  Difficulties in distinguishing between certain gonad stages is of common concern for observers onboard vessels fishing for Dissostichus eleginoides. To minimise errors in interpretation of maturity scales of D. eleginoides a comprehensive identification guide has been prepared. It is
