Abstract:

Population structure and dynamics of the abundance of Notothenia rossii rossii on the Kerguelen Island shelf from the beginning of the fishery to 1984 has been examined.Total and commercial stocks of this species have been determined proceeding from data of inventory trawl survey and calculation by mathematical modelling.Comparative estimates of the abundance and recruitment-remainder ratio for the period of 1970-1984 have been presented, the average age of recruitment has been stated.
Fishing mortality of Notothenia rossii rossii, the age and length for optimal exploitation, coefficients of exploitation (Uopt.) and optimal fishing mortality (Fopt.) in age groups and years of fishery have been determined.

Abstract:

In reference to the YugNIRO antarctic expedition in the season of 1989/90, information on the areas covered by oceanographic observations from the expedition’s vessels, on the scope of those observations and the preliminary results thereof are presented in this paper.
It is shows that both ice and hydrometeorolegical conditions determinig the production processes and the formation of krill and fish aggregations in the marginal /epicontinental/ Antarctic seas were most favourable in Cooperation Sea (long. 55-80° East) and least so in Cosmonaut Sea (long. 33-55° East).

Abstract:

From the field material collected on the YugNIRO integrated expedition in the Indian Ocean sector of the Antarctic in the season of 1989-1990, information is presented in this paper on ichthyofauna, size–weight composition and main parameters of the biological state of the more abundant fishes taken on the shelf of Antarctica, at Ob and Lena Seamounts (referred to as Banks in the Russian usage), and in the zone of the Southern Polar front.
In the shelf area, of Cooperation Sea, localities of elevated bioproductivity were pinpointed, mixed-species aggregations of Chaenodraco wilsoni and Pseudotrematomus eulepidotus were found in those places. Both seasonal and diurnal trends of the species cooccurrence (i.e. the varying species ratio in the aggregation) were brought out. The bulk of fish examined was made up of matte individuals with gonads in postspawning stages of maturity. Krill was the chief component in the diet of fish.
From census survey by trawl and acoustic means, simultaneous ichthyomass was estimated on Rise "6230" (Storegg Bank), where some 30 thousand tons of fish concentrated over an area of some 50 square miles. Census surveys were carried out also in other areas of the Cooperation Sea shelf and in the subantarctic zone of the Indian Ocean (Ob and Lena Banks).

Abstract:

According to the results of the registered trawling surveys carried out during the joint Soviet-French expeditions (1987-1988), more precise evaluations of the main commercial species biomass in the Kerguelen Islands area are given below. When evaluating the fish stocks, a special attention has been paid to the registration of hurricane samples zones and to the construction of their content evaluations. It is shown in the paper, that the total fish biomass is subjected to considerable variations and is in direct dependence on the quantity of the icefish year-class entering fishery.
