The Secretariat received fishery notifications for exploratory fisheries for toothfish and krill fisheries for 2019/20. No notifications were received for new fisheries. The summary details of all fishery notifications are in this paper, the full details for the consideration of Members of the Commission are available to authenticated users through the CCAMLR website Fishery Notifications. Abstract:
Abstract:
Russian Federation is going to continue investigation for toothfish in Ross Sea. This paper presents the research program in the frame of the Research and Monitoring Plan for RSRMOR.
The research program shall be conducted in the Special Research Zone during 2019 - 2021 or the first reference period for existence of the RSRMPA. This program provides possibility for collaborative investigations in the Special Research Zone by Russian vessels and vessel from other CCAMLR members.
Abstract:
A collaborative research program has been undertaken by Japan and South Africa since 2013 to enhance data collection and analysis in the subarea 48.6. From the last season (2018/19) Spain has joined the proposal in order to contribute to the data acquisition and to speed up the integrated assessments of the Antarctic toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni) stock in this subarea (FSA-18/34).
The continuation of the three-member research proposal for 2019/20 season is presented to ensure continuity of previous research activities. Data and investigations about the population structure and various demographic parameters of D. mawsoni using trotline (JPN and ZAF) and Spanish longline (ESP) gears, established tagging techniques, pop-up tags and genetic analysis will provide the basis for the development of spatial population models and assessments in support of management advice. An Integrated Stock Assessment (ISA) of this species is expected to be done by the end of the 2020/21 season.
Abstract:
This paper presents an update of the metrics of capacity and capacity utilisation presented in WG-SAM 14/19 and WG-FSA 15/09 in order to monitor trends in capacity in exploratory toothfish fisheries in Subareas 88.1 and 88.2. The updated metrics show the same pattern as in previous updates and do not indicate an excess of capacity in the fishery. Interpretation of data for 2018 and 2019 should be made in the context of changes in the area of operation and the application of fishery closures in the exploratory fishery in Subarea 88.1.
Abstract:
This paper presents catches of target species from directed fishing on toothfish, icefish and krill in the Convention Area in 2017/18 and 2018/19, and catches taken during research activities pursuant to CM 24-01, paragraph 3. Monthly catch totals for 2018/19, based on data reported to 13 September 2019, are presented with dates of closures of fisheries implemented by the Secretariat.
