  1. Some components of uncertainty in the CCAMLR 2000 acoustical survey of krill

Abstract:  Quickly studied and quantified were sources of uncertainty in the CCAMLR 2000 acoustical estimate of krill abundance in FAO statistical area 48. The variance in system calibration was evaluated in relation to the effects of variant water temperature and salinity on sound speed, sound

  2. Documentation for the CCAMLR survey database and length-density analysis

Abstract:  Over the past two years, the CCAMLR Data Centre has undertaken a major overhaul of the research survey database and the routines used for length-density analyses. This overhaul was necessary because of the increasing quantity and diversity of survey data and their importance in the

  4. Longline fishing at Tristan da Cunha: impact on seabirds

Abstract:  Tristan da Cunha and Gough Islands in the central South Atlantic Ocean support globally important seabird populations. Two longline fisheries occur within Tristan’s Exclusive Economic Zone: a pelagic fishery for tunas and a demersal fishery for bluefish and alfoncino. Fishery observers

  5. What do we know about fish stocks in the Southern Scotia region? A review and prospects for future research

Abstract:  Work on finfish in the southern Scotia Arc was restricted to taxonomy until the end of the 1960’s. Commercial exploitation, primarily on mackerel ice fish, Champsocephalus gunnari, and marbled notothenia, Notothenia rossii, started around the South Orkney Islands (60 – 62° / 43 – 47° W)

  7. Biological features of the icefish Champsocephalus gunnari from commercial catches in Subarea 48.3 during the period from 8 December 1999 until 31 January 2000

Abstract:  In the period from 11 December 1999 to 31 January 2000 Russian trawler "Zakhar Sorokin" carried out fishing the icefish Champsocephalus gunnari feeding consent rations in the western shelf of the South Georgia Island. Icefish 26-40 cm in length, with the average size of 30.3 cm

  8. UK groundfish survey in Subarea 48.3 (South Georgia and Shag Rocks), January 2000

Abstract:  A survey was conducted by the UK around South Georgia and Shag Rocks, Subarea 48.3, from 11 January to 2 February 2000, using the FV Argos Galicia. The design followed similar surveys by the UK conducted throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. The swept area estimates of the standing stock

  9. Notes on the biology of the South Georgia ray, Raja georgiana

Abstract:  Morphological information is given on specimens of Raja georgiana that were caught during a demersal trawl survey in Subarea 48.3, South Georgia. It is concluded that, in spite of allometric growth, proportional measurements are best referenced to total length rather than disc width.
