We would like to offer our congratulations to Dr Marino Vacchi on his 30 years of contributions to CCAMLR. A memento in the form of a pewter wombat was mailed to him to acknowledge this occasion.
As scientist of the Italian Programme of Antarctic Research (PNRA), Dr Vacchi has been investigating Antarctic fish biology and ecology since 1987 during several expeditions in the Ross Sea and in other areas of the Southern Ocean.
The Antarctic glacier 'Vacchi Piedmont Glacier' in the western Ross Sea is named after him to acknowledge his contribution to the advancement of Antarctic fish research.
In the thirty years he has served CCAMLR as the Italian representative in the Scientific Committee and contributed regularly to working group activities and meetings.
In Italy, he is presently a Senior Associate Researcher at the National Research Council.
