Argentina hosted the 2017 meeting of the Working Group on Ecosystem Monitoring and Management (WG-EMM) at the Palacio San Martín, Buenos Aires. The meeting took place from 10 to 14 July and 54 participants from 18 Members participated.
All participants enjoyed a guided tour of the palace, a venue of exceptional elegance, built in the very early 20th century as a private residence. The palace is now used as the Ceremonial Headquarters for the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
For the first time in the history of WG-EMM meetings, one day of the meeting was supported by English/Spanish interpreters who facilitated the delivery of Spanish presentations, thus enabling all participants to take part in detailed discussions.
First-time Convener, Dr Małgorzata Korczak-Abshire (Poland) very efficiently managed the flow of the meeting. The main body of work was finished by mid-day on Thursday, giving participants sufficient time to prepare report text and provide comments using the updated version of the CCAMLR meeting server. The new look and feel of the software enabled participants to interact more intuitively with text. Electronic adoption on the last day of the meeting, supported by the Secretariat, went smoothly and the report will be considered by the Scientific Committee at its meeting in October 2017.
