    Abstract

The paper contains a proposal and draft management plan for a new Protected Area for Edmonson Point, Wood Bay, Ross Sea. This proposal has been submitted at the XVII ATCM , Cape Town, 24 May - 4 June 2004m (Document WP-007), for consideration as an Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA). The ATCM established an Intersessional Contact Group to review the plan over 2004-05, a view to consideration for adoption at the XVIII ATCM in 2005. Because the Management Plan proposes the inclusion of a small marine component, and also because research being conducted at the site contributes to the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Programme (CEMP), consideration and approval of the plan by CCAMLR is sought prior to submission to the ATCM for adoption as an ASPA.
